"Guru Nanak Jahaz" refers to the Japanese steamship Komagata Maru which was renamed before its fateful voyage in 1914. The ship, chartered by Gurdit Singh, a Sikh businessman, was carrying Indian immigrants to Canada, but was denied entry and forced to return to India, where a tragic confrontation with British authorities at Budge Budge resulted in deaths and arrests. The renaming of the ship to "Guru Nanak Jahaz" (Jahaz meaning ship in Punjabi) was done to honor Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.
